Your e-rights online, coming soon

In May 2009 the European Commission launched eYouGuide which is a portal “aiming to inform the Internet users on their rights on the Internet.” It includes questions and answers on all types of e-services available to Europeans, including online payments.

When I first visited the site I was disappointed with the very limited number of online payment questions the portal addressed and the lack of any opportunity to submit one’s own. A missed opportunity I thought.

However, I just received an email from the EC (in response to me pointing out the above) stating the following:

“…the Commission plans to review, update and extend the content of the guide in the beginning of 2010, especially taking into account new legislation that will enter into force by the end of this year …”

“… a specific functional mailbox on the website will also be available for those users who are interested in submitting their feedback or suggesting new questions. This should be done together with the launch of the website in 10 linguistic versions planned for autumn 2009.”

I think this will be a valuable service for European consumers and getting a clear-cut answer to some difficult questions may give them more confidence in all the e-services out there.
